Antique multicoloured stevengraph woven silk art image of a romantic garden scene with a painter at work painting a portrait of a lady and a lot of spectators around.
Neyret Freres used weaving looms and silk between 1890 and 1930. The very fine silk weaving techniques (almost like a photograph) were exhibited for the first time at the Crystal Palace in 1868, at the London International Exhibition in 1870. A little later in the rest of Europe and in the United States. From 1862 to 1867 Stevens's catalogues contained from 50 0 to 900 varieties of bookmarks, pictures, fans, badges, embroidered neckties, and sashes. This is a nice example of this Stevengraph silk weaving technique as it is in reasonable good condition. It could use some stretching but we did not touch it.
Vintage. Size 26 x 20 cm. Handmade in the last century. France. Framed.
