Expressively carved wooden statue. Fine and creative craftsmanship carved from native wood.
African origin. Probably Baloba Congo.
It has been around for a long time and has some wear and tear but still in very good shape. A fine piece of decoration.
Hand made in or before 1950.
Great Grandfather was involved in agricultural development. He has left us a big coffer in the attic. It is full of wooden tribal statues that he collected on his travels. He had a keen eye to select beautiful decorative pieces and brought them home. But alas he did not label them and it is too late to ask him. So the provenance of these statuettes is fairly unknown to us. But we do know where he travelled and when. He travelled in Indonesia in the 1930's. Java, Bali, Lombok and Sulawesi. In 1950 he travelled in East Africa. Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi and Congo. In 1960 he was in West Africa. Gambia, Burkina, Nigeria.
So that is all we know. If you know more about these statutes, please let us know. Then we can add the information. Thanks.
